Things have been insane for people who love, and hate, TYT lately. I spent hours over two days writing and rewriting a post on it for Substack, but pulled it last-minute on Tuesday because, to be honest, a lot has happened and I’m not sure I even agree with myself on where I stand on everything. I’ll probably address it all here later.
But for now — I needed a break from things, so I tweeted out and posted on Instagram and Threads a pic of my adorable Yorkshire Terrier, Scrappy. I don’t post about personal stuff often, but whenever I sent out a post online with Scrappy it gets lots of love.
And that’s not surprising because research shows that pets have proven health benefits for humans. As WebMD mentions, multiple studies have shown companion animals can actually help alleviate depression, for example. And 74% of people who own pets say they help with their mental health. You can read more here.
As someone who is bipolar and suffers from anxiety, I can confirm this for me personally. Even when he’s annoying, I know Scrappy loves my family and me, and it’s mutual. It’s always comforting having him around. The licks and cuddles with the whole family make the task of taking care of a sometimes opinionated dog more than worth it. He’s a member of the family, albeit the only one I have to carry poop bags around for! 😂
So it makes sense to me that seeing a pet on social media would elicit a positive reaction that could help elevate people’s moods after hours of doomscrolling. Without further ado, here are several pics of our lovable Yorkie Scrappy. Hope they brighten your day, and hope you have a great weekend.
